TYLER COTTON has reprised his role as Melvin in the wicked-popular Netflix Original series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina which has returned for Part 4, the final season.
AC: What can audiences expect from The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina?
TYLER COTTON – A darker twist with more magic, more darkness, and more Melvin.
AC: How does your character fit into the story?
TYLER COTTON – Melvin is a student at the Academy of Unseen Arts with Sabrina and the rest of the witches and warlocks. Melvin’s usually the one running in with bad news! In the second part of the show, we see Melvin actually die and later be brought back to life by Sabrina, after that he is a true believer in Sabrina’s abilities.
AC: What do you think is your character’s ultimate goal?
TYLER COTTON – I think Melvin just wants to feel a sense of belonging. Melvin has very mortal morals and because of that, he doesn’t feel like he belongs or fits in this wild magical world that we get to see.
AC: Can you recall any funny moments from on-set filming?
TYLER COTTON – So many! We would play this game called “The Hat” which was a puzzle game where you have to figure out a pattern and we played that game for so long while everyone tried to figure it out.
AC: As an actor, what are you still trying to learn?
TYLER COTTON – Everything, I don’t think we ever get to a point where we think we’ve learned it all (or at least I hope). We can always get better, be more patient, more open, more grounded, do more research and I think that’s one of the best parts of acting is that there is always more!
AC: How can you tell when you’re reading a great script?
TYLER COTTON – When I genuinely react to it! If it makes me laugh, excited, sad, etc. there were so many points while working on Sarina where I would finish a script and instantly want to know what happens in the next one and that’s really exciting!
AC: When did you begin to see acting as a potential career avenue?
TYLER COTTON – Acting was always something I wanted to do I think but I grew up in a small town in Alberta Canada and acting didn’t really feel like an option.
It wasn’t until a year after high school when I was doing background work on “Hell On Wheels” that I started to see it as a career. About a month or two after that I packed my bags and moved to Vancouver and started acting!
AC: What do you want the world to look like in 10 years?
TYLER COTTON – More empathy and more love.
AC: How important is social media to you right now?
TYLER COTTON – Not super important, I could definitely go without it for a bit. I think it’s important because I’ve got friends everywhere and it really helps me keep in contact with them!
AC: What’s the biggest realisation you’ve had this past year?
TYLER COTTON – At the end of the day if everyone is healthy, you’ve got your friends and family, a roof over your head, and food in your belly you’ve got everything you need.
AC: What makes you feel nostalgic?
TYLER COTTON – Listening to my favourite songs from when I was growing up.
AC: Aside from your upcoming projects, what are you excited about for the future?
TYLER COTTON – Learning more! I’ve been reading a lot during the pandemic and I’m excited to read and learn more!
