NICOLE HUFF can currently be seen in Netflix’s new hit series Tiny Pretty Things.
Tiny Pretty Things follows the world of an elite ballet academy, and charts the rise and fall of young adults who live far from their homes, each standing on the verge of greatness or ruin. Nicole’s character Paige is a corps dancer at The Archer School of Ballet whose job at the Michi Beach Club takes a dark turn, leading to a chilling revelation about ASB.
AC: What can audiences expect from Tiny Pretty Things?
NICOLE HUFF – Audiences can expect a complex world filled with drama, dance and darkness. It follows the lives of the elite dancers who’d do anything to be at the top at The Archer School of Ballet in Chicago. There are steamy and fun moments. There are also intricate and heartbreaking moments. There’s a great amount of diversity and representation on the show which is amazing.
AC: How does your character fit into the story?
NICOLE HUFF – My character Paige Aquino, is one of the elite dancers at the Archer School of Ballet. She represents strength in the series because of the storyline she goes through. Because of the contrast between her fun, loving and outgoing personality and her challenging storyline, this along with other character storylines can really create such a range of emotions in the audience.
AC: What do you think is your character’s ultimate goal?
NICOLE HUFF – My character’s ultimate goal is to dance and to fit in at this school. She’s looking to get further education from being at the school. She’s also there to feel safe and loved.
AC: Can you recall any funny moments from on-set filming?
NICOLE HUFF – During my first day on set, I met the actors who play Bette and Shane. When we met, Casimere was like “I’m Casimere”. Brennan said, “I’m Velvet” and then I said “I’m Silk”. It came really fast to all of us and we were laughing.
AC: As an actor, what are you still trying to learn?
NICOLE HUFF – I always look at specific moments in my scenes that I could improve from watching scenes I’ve read or done. As an actor, you’re always learning. You’re learning even from living your life. As you grow, your craft grows with you. I watch a lot of my favorite actors that I look up to.
AC: How can you tell when you’re reading a great script?
NICOLE HUFF – I can tell I’m reading a great script when it evokes a kind of emotion in me. It usually makes me feel inspired to be a part of it. If it makes me want to figure it out, find backstories of the characters and watch it on screen, I know it’s great.
AC: When did you begin to see acting as a potential career avenue?
NICOLE HUFF – I had done acting before and have been a part of cool shows and films growing up. I really started taking acting seriously a few years ago when I started training more. It was then when I started getting positive feedback from people in the industry where I decided I wanted to pursue it. I developed a passion for storytelling and ultimately I believe what you pursue has to be both a mixture of what you love and what you’re good at.
AC: What do you want the world to look like in 10 years?
NICOLE HUFF – I want the world to be a safe place. I want to see the poverty and hunger rate go down. I also want to see no COVID-19 and I want there to be a cure for more diseases. I’d love to see more representation, diversity and stories being told as well.
AC: How important is social media to you right now?
NICOLE HUFF – It is important because it’s great to put yourself out there and connect with people, especially in the entertainment industry, however, it’s not everything.
AC: What’s the biggest realisation you’ve had this past year?
NICOLE HUFF – I’ve realized that spending quality time with your loved ones is the most important thing. We take them and our health for granted.
AC: What makes you feel nostalgic?
NICOLE HUFF – Listening to music my mom and dad would play when I was little. My mom would play Britney Spears, NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. My dad would play The Beatles, Aerosmith and a lot of rock music. This takes me back to beautiful memories.
AC: Aside from your upcoming projects, what are you excited about for the future?
NICOLE HUFF – I’m excited to release my original dance-pop music EP that I’ve been working on. I’m also stoked about signing with my LA talent managers and agents. I’m looking forward to incredible opportunities!
