McKELL DAVID can currently be see in Netflix’s The Irregulars.
Set in Victorian London, the series follows a gang of troubled delinquent teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner. As the crimes take on a horrifying supernatural edge and a dark power emerges, it’ll be up to the Irregulars to come together to save London, each other, and potentially the entire world.
AC: What can audiences expect from The Irregulars?
McKELL DAVID – The Irregulars is a jam-packed rollercoaster ride of emotions, it follows a gang of 5 that has been manipulated into investigating these spooky supernatural murders in London! Terrifying! But as much as its scary and tense, it’s also a really sweet story about compassion and friendship and helping each other feel strong, powerful and confident with themselves.
AC: How does your character Spike fit into the story?
McKELL DAVID – Spike is the skeleton of the group, he uses his charm and humour to leave smiles on the rest of the gangs face. Spike is a street veteran and knows all four corners of London. I think he is dealing with a lot of trauma internally, which makes him overcompensate to be happy at times.
AC: What do you think is Spike’s ultimate goal?
McKELL DAVID – Spike’s ultimate goal, like the rest of the gang, is to find the source of all this madness in the city. I think at first, we meet the gang and they’re just trying to get by in life but by the end they’ve all matured into adults.

AC: Can you recall any funny moments from on-set filming?
McKELL DAVID – Our set had so many funny moments, it’s hard to name a specific one, but for me it would probably be when we were playing 5-aside footy with the crew after set and one of the locations team nearly broke Jojo Harrison and my leg!
AC: As an actor, what are you still trying to learn?
McKELL DAVID – I think as an actor the learning never stops, well for me anyway! I feel like the whole experience is a creative experience the moment you go into it thinking you know it all you’ve lost!
AC: How can you tell when you’re reading a great script?
McKELL DAVID – I think when it captivates you, it’s just like reading a book when you can’t put it down and you’re going to sleep thinking about it, dreaming about it. Then you know you’re on to something.
AC: When did you begin to see acting as a potential career avenue?
McKELL DAVID – I’ve always been an entertainer, always wanted to push myself. I think when I started the YouTube show when I was 12 years old that sparked my interest in acting.

AC: What do you want the world to look like in 10 years?
McKELL DAVID – I don’t know man, in an ideal world everyone loves each other on a human level, if this happens maybe we can end all suffering.
AC: How important is social media to you right now?
McKELL DAVID – It’s not important to me at all, I love that people that are supporting the show or my career can view and see what I’m up to. But I think the bigger conversation is the effect it’s having on the younger generations hence why I do not see it as important. Social media can be very positive social media but also very negative.
AC: What’s the biggest realisation you’ve had this past year?
McKELL DAVID – That money, fame, accolades means nothing brother, only family and health means something everything else is worthless.
AC: What makes you feel nostalgic?
McKELL DAVID – When I listen to old stool grime and watch risky roads videos. Also, when I see Averiex’s and Lot29 tracksuits looks, it reminds me of my childhood.
AC: Aside from your upcoming projects, what are you excited about for the future?
McKELL DAVID – I’m excited to create & see the world. It’s been almost two years in isolation so now I want to run free through a field of daisies bro! [Laughs]
