Your employees are the lifeblood of your business, so it stands to reason that their comfort and happiness is a priority of yours. If you want your business to be a successful one, you should consider keeping your vision alive and pushing it so that the wheels of your business are continuing to move forward. None of this can happen, though, if your employees are unhappy and unproductive in the workplace. You need your team to be successful, too, and that means that you have to take responsibility for their comfort and happiness in the office.
The good news is that there are many things that you can do to ensure that the people who work for you are happy, sane and able to work well. Motivated individuals want to work, and they will want to work with you for longer if they know that you put their comfort first. Below, we’ve put together a list of things that you could be doing to support the people working for you and allow them to feel great about where they work!
- Lighting. No one wants to sit staring at a screen all day with dim lighting. The same is true for lighting that is far too bright, too. Your staff deserve to see comfortably, and so you should maximize the use of natural light as much as possible so that it floods into the office space. Place the desks strategically so that your office is bathed in light. Then enhance that with soft bulbs – let go of the strip lights, they’re horrible to work with.
- Break Rooms. When was the last time one of your staff members had a need for space in the office? Encouraging your staff to take a moment away from their desk to breathe when they’re overwhelmed shows that you care about their mental health. Providing a break room or an outdoor space (or both!) for staff to take pause is important. Sometimes, the office gets too much. This will help!
- Temperature Control. A stuffy, hot and sticky office does not make for motivated and happy employees. The right heating and air conditioning solutions will help your staff to maintain their personal comfort. You can also set a limit so that people aren’t making it freezing cold in the office and the temperatures aren’t too extreme either way. With the right scheduling, you can ensure that you are keeping everyone personally comfortable.
- An Update or Two. A splash of color, upgraded carpets and a yearly check on your HVAC system are the kind of updates that your office needs so that people can feel like they are working in an office they can enjoy being in. It can raise the morale of the people in your employ if you are ensuring that they work in a beautiful space.
Doing your best for the people who work for you is one of the best ways that you can ensure staff loyalty. Try some of these out and you’ll see how well they work!
